HISTORY

In 1910, Central Georgia Power Co. constructed a dam on the Ocmulgee River, to generate hydroelectric power for Macon, Ga and surrounding areas.
The gates were closed and the power plant was on line in 1911, making Lake Jackson one of the oldest impoundments in Georgia.
Since that time, the dam has been heightened twice to its present size.
Lake Jackson is fed by three rivers: the South, the Alcovy and the Yellow River. These rivers once flowed into the Ocmulgee, but now, freshen the waters of the lake.
The shoreline measures 150 miles, and the lake has 4750 surface acres of water.
Presently owned by Georgia Power Co, a subsidiary of Southern Co., the lake has two recreation areas maintained by the owners:

Lloyd Shoals Public Area
Beach, bath houses, picnic pavilion, picnic tables and restrooms
located on the west side of the lake at the dam, in Butts Co.

New - Riverside Public Area
Picnic tables and restrooms and a fishing pier, and a new boat launch ramp behind the dam (on the Ocmulgee River) in Jasper Co.
